            Loss of appetite is a major or substantial symptom or sign of colitis. It also normally occurs during a sudden illness, such as an infection. When a loss of appetite prolongs for a long time, a person is at risk for malnutrition. Loss of appetite may cause unintended weight loss.decreases the defense mechanisms and could ingest the organisms into your body that can slow down the healing process of the body. There can be many reasons behind the loss of appetite which can be as small as a passing flu or cold or there may even be a serious reason behind it like tuberculosis, low thyroid in the body or it may even indicate a heart or liver or lungs disorder.

  • Drink a small glass of fruit juice half an hour before your meal. The sugar in fruit juice causes a spike, followed by a decline in your blood sugar that triggers your appetite.
  • Avoid eating in front of the television. Family meals in front of the TV on occasion will do no harm. However, eating regularly in front of the TV is distracting and often results in picky eaters eating less.
  • Eat until you are full.  Our stomach size dictates how much we can fit in there at a time.  So if you eat up until you are full and then some, you will gradually stretch your stomach.
  • Try to avoid junk foods as they are high in calories but have low nutritional value. Just one small nibble of junk food can completely destroy the appetite of a picky eater!











  • Regular physical exercise can also help restore your appetite. Cardiovascular forms of exercise, such as walking, jogging, biking or swimming, are ideal because they increase blood circulation and stimulate your metabolism to use, and your body to replenish, calories.
  • Any grouping of horse radish, garlic, safflower, hops, goldenseal, oatstraw, barberry, parsley, and ginseng will help increase appetite.
  • The color red improves appetite. Set a table with a red tablecloth and candles, even if you're just sitting down alone for a quick dinner. 
  • Get creative and make meal and snack times fun! Cut bread into shapes, arrange carrots, tomatoes, etc to look like a face, offer healthy dips like yogurt for finger foods, fun and lively placemats, crockery, cutlery, etc.
 
 
Use these home remedies for appetite:







  • Coriander seed coarse powder – 5 grams, Ginger coarse powder – 1 gram, water – 70 ml. Take this mixture in a vessel and boil it in moderate heat till around 35 ml is remaining. It should be consumed while it is warm.
  • One part each of cloves, nutmeg and long pepper, 3 parts of Indian gooseberry and 8 parts of ginger. Grind the mixture to obtain a fine powder. Add sufficient sugar to make it tasty enough to eat. Consume a spoonful of this mixture twice or thrice a day helps in improving lost appetite.
  • Take equal quantities of cinnamon bark, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, cardamom and soak them in water and keep the container as such overnight. In the morning, Blend the entire mixture and strain it. Drinking of this preparation early in the morning before eating anything increases the appetite of the person.
  • Mix together 6 drops of coriander oil, one drop of peppermint oil, four drops of black pepper oil, eight drops of chary sage oil and finally three drops of ginger oil by putting all of these essential oils in an air tight container and shaking them by moving the container upside down again and again for few minutes or by rolling the container between your palm. Smell these oils whenever you don’t feel like having anything. 
  • Extract a cup of pomegranate seed juice. Add a pinch of rock salt and a spoonful of honey. Sip it slowly and it removes the bad taste from the mouth and increases your appetite
  • Take equal quantities of black salt, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ginger and asafoetida and grind them together to form a powder. Mix this powder in one glass of butter milk and have this milk one hour before the meals. It is very beneficial for increasing the appetite.
  • Prepare a paste by mixing together goose berry, honey and some butter and lick this paste before having your meals. This is a very good remedy for increasing the appetite.
